This course builds do-not-enter awareness; it does not qualify you to enter a confined space.

What You Will Learn
Recognise the four hazards that kill and maim around grain storage: engulfment, auger entanglement, falls, and toxic or oxygen-depleted atmospheres
Explain why flowing and bridged grain behaves like quicksand and why a person caught in it cannot self-rescue
Describe safe practice around augers: guarding, an accessible stop, and isolating and locking out before clearing a blockage
Identify the atmospheric dangers of sealed and phosphine-fumigated silos and why you never enter until they are ventilated and tested clear
Treat every silo, field bin, tank and chaser bin as a confined space, apply the do-not-enter rule, the standby-person and rescue principles, and know that entry work is separate, accredited, permit-controlled work

Who This Course Is For
Grain growers, farm owners, farm workers, harvest and silo-cart operators, contractors and family members who move, store, aerate or fumigate grain and anyone who has ever climbed a silo ladder or reached into a bin to break a blockage.
Accreditation: This is a non-accredited awareness course only. It is not a nationally recognised qualification, not an RTO Statement of Attainment and not a high-risk work or confined space entry licence and it does not authorise you to enter a confined space, to work inside a silo, tank or bin or to fumigate grain. Confined space entry is competency-based work that requires a risk assessment, a written entry permit, atmospheric testing and trained entrants and standby personnel under the WHS/OHS confined spaces laws, obtained through a Registered Training Organisation and your employer's procedures, not this course. Grain fumigation with phosphine is a regulated activity governed by the product label and, in some states, licensing. This course teaches you to recognise the hazards and stay out; it does not replace that training, a licence or your workplace's documented procedures. If in doubt, do not enter: get the competent, authorised process.
