What You Will Learn
Explain who regulates agvet chemicals before and after the point of retail sale, and why the APVMA-approved label directions must be followed
Read the key parts of an agricultural chemical label, signal heading, directions for use, withholding period, re-entry period, safety directions and first aid, and use the Safety Data Sheet alongside it
Recognise safe storage and segregation practice, and explain why product must stay in its approved, labelled container
Describe how spray drift, re-entry periods and withholding periods protect workers, neighbours, produce and trade
Identify the points of highest exposure risk, mixing and decanting, state what a chemical use record must capture, and respond correctly to a suspected exposure by calling the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26

Who This Course Is For
Farm and station workers, orchard and vineyard hands, chemical storepersons and store staff, contractors and labour-hire workers, farm supervisors and managers and anyone who works near agvet chemicals, moves them, stores them or supervises people who use them, without being the accredited applicator themselves.
Accreditation: This is a non-accredited awareness course. It is not a nationally recognised qualification, not an RTO Statement of Attainment and not chemical accreditation. It does not authorise you to prepare, mix or apply any agricultural or veterinary chemical. In particular, this course is not the accredited chemical training that several states require by law before a person applies pesticides occupationally, in New South Wales, for example, the Pesticides Regulation 2017 requires users to hold approved competencies, at AQF2 (unit AHCCHM201 Apply chemicals under supervision) for supervised users or AQF3 (units AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases and AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals) for an unsupervised operator such as a farmer, with reassessment every 5 years. That training is delivered by Registered Training Organisations, and this course does not replace it, shorten it or count towards it. Some products are restricted chemical products that may only be supplied to or used by an authorised person, and some states require a permit or prescribed qualification before certain chemicals may be bought or used. This course also contains no clinical content: it does not diagnose, and it gives no antidote, dose or treatment advice. For a suspected poisoning, follow the label's first aid instructions and call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 or 000 in an emergency. Check your own state or territory's control-of-use requirements, and your employer's rules, before you go near an agvet chemical.
