In the ACT, asbestos awareness training is legally required for workers in the occupations declared by the Minister, and WorkSafe ACT accepts accredited training delivered through an approved registered training organisation, currently 11084NAT, Course in Asbestos Awareness. This course is not accredited and does not satisfy the ACT's mandatory training requirement. If you work in a declared occupation in the ACT, complete the accredited course through an approved provider; this course may only supplement it as general awareness.

Describe what asbestos is, the difference between friable and non-friable asbestos, and what asbestos-containing materials (ACM) look like
Explain the health risks of asbestos exposure, including asbestosis, mesothelioma and lung cancer, and the role of latency
Identify where ACM is commonly found in buildings constructed or refurbished before 2004
Explain the purpose of the asbestos register and asbestos management plan, and apply the 'do not disturb' principle
Recognise your duties under the WHS Regulations and when a licensed asbestos removalist is legally required

Accreditation: This is a non-accredited awareness course. It does not issue a unit of competency and does not license or authorise you to remove, handle, disturb or work with asbestos. Removal and control work must be carried out under the relevant WHS Regulations, and licensed removal requires accredited training and a licence issued by your state or territory regulator.
