What You Will Learn

Explain why falls from height are a leading cause of traumatic workplace death in Australia
Describe the duties in the WHS Regulations for managing the risk of falls from one level to another
Apply the hierarchy of fall controls: ground-level work first, then fall prevention devices, work positioning systems, and fall arrest only as a last resort
Identify safe ladder selection and use practices, and the tasks ladders are not suitable for
Explain why emergency and rescue planning, including the danger of suspension intolerance, is mandatory whenever fall arrest is used
