FIFO Fatigue, Isolation and Mental Health Awareness
A plain-English course for people who fly in and fly out, drive in and drive out, supervise them or build their rosters. Learn how roster length, night shift, travel days and camp life build fatigue and wear people down; how isolation from family and support networks does real harm; why psychosocial risk is a legal WHS duty and not a soft issue; how to notice when you or a mate is struggling; how to have a supportive conversation without pretending to be a counsellor; and exactly where to get real help. This is awareness only. It is not a mental health qualification and it does not make you anyone's clinician.

What You Will Learn
Explain how roster length, compression, night shift, travel days and camp life build fatigue and psychosocial risk for FIFO and DIDO workers, and how that fatigue then impairs judgment, reaction time and behaviour and feeds back into other hazards on site
Recognise isolation, loneliness and reduced access to support networks as a named psychosocial hazard rather than a personal weakness
State that managing psychosocial risk is a legal duty on the PCBU under WHS or OHS law, and identify what your jurisdiction requires
Notice the changes that suggest you or a workmate is struggling, and start a supportive conversation within your limits
Signpost the right help, including the 24/7 national services, and use safe language when suicide is part of the conversation

Accreditation: This is a non-accredited awareness course. It is not a nationally recognised qualification, not an RTO Statement of Attainment and not any form of clinical, counselling or mental health credential. In particular, it is not Mental Health First Aid, the Standard Mental Health First Aid course from Mental Health First Aid Australia is separate, licensed training delivered by accredited instructors and this course does not replace it. Nor does it replace MATES Connector or Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), or MATES general awareness training, your site's own inductions and fatigue procedures or the free resources published by Safe Work Australia and your WHS regulator. Treat this as supplementary awareness that sits alongside them. Completing it does not qualify you to diagnose, assess, treat or counsel anyone, to make a clinical judgement about a person's safety or to decide whether someone is fit for work.
