Livestock Transport and Animal Welfare Awareness

Accreditation: This is a non-accredited awareness course. It does not issue a unit of competency and it does not replace any of the accredited or licensed things that sit beside it. It is not a heavy vehicle driver licence, not accreditation under the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program and not the nationally recognised chain of responsibility units TLIF0009 and TLIF0080, which are delivered separately by a registered training organisation. It is not training in humane destruction and not a firearms licence: the Land Transport Standards require humane destruction to be done by a competent person or under the direct supervision of one, and anyone using a firearm must be licensed for it. It also contains no veterinary advice, where the Standards require an animal to be transported only under veterinary advice, that means advice from a veterinarian registered in Australia, not this course. One standard bears directly on this question: SA2.1 requires a person involved in any part of the livestock transport process to be competent to perform their required task, or to be supervised by a competent person. The Standards define competency as the ability to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, attitude and behaviour needed to meet their requirements and list on-the-job training records, relevant experience, recognised training and staff training registers, induction training and supervisor sign-off for specific tasks as supporting evidence of it. Awareness training like this can form part of that evidence trail; on its own it does not make you a competent person for any task. Use this course to build recognition and judgement, then follow the Standards as they apply in your state or territory, your employer's procedures and the directions of the person in charge.
